The June 17th expedition team took a well-earned rest day at High Camp (17,200 ft / 5,243 m), enjoying clear skies but feeling the deep cold that comes with life at extreme altitude. With stunning views stretching across the Alaska Range, the team is conserving energy and staying sharp as they assess next steps.
The remainder of the West Buttress route from High Camp to Denali’s summit at 20,310 ft (6,190 m) is currently in challenging condition, with firm winds and variable snow along the upper ridge. The team is watching the forecast closely and taking their time to make a strategic decision about when to launch their summit push.
Today was all about hydration, recovery, and mentally preparing for what’s ahead. Hot drinks, warm sleeping bags, and a strong sense of camaraderie are keeping the crew grounded and focused. Every decision from this point forward is made with intention and safety as top priorities.
