The May 8th Mountain Trip team reached the summit of Denali today! It turned into a pretty nice day for them and they were grateful to get a shot at the top. We’ve had a bit of attrition on the team, which isn’t uncommon. Vanessa turned around as the team was moving to high camp and is now in basecamp with one of the guides, Bailey. Jeff was on his way to the summit when he started feeling the altitude and needed to turn around. Jeff and our guide Mike turned around on the summit push and descended all the way back down to the relatively warm thick air of 14,000 ft camp. Jeff was feeling much better by the time they got back down, which is what we hope to see.
Eli took the rest of the team, Antonio, Rocco, Grant, and Carly, and reached the summit around 8pm Alaska time. They were back in camp a few hours later eating dinner and recovering from a long day, but all is well. They’ll start down the mountain tomorrow and regroup with Jeff and Mike for the descent to basecamp.
