May 8 Denali Team Waiting out the Weather at Camp 3

The May 8 team is waiting out the weather at 14,200ft/Camp 3 today, and hope for a break by Thursday so they can start heading up the mountain. These weather days are a great opportunity to rest and acclimatize, and a defining part of Alaska Range climbs, but they can be tough. Right now the team is ready to move up to high camp at over 17,000 ft and make their summit push, but they’ll need a couple of days of decent weather to make that happen.

The team is watching the weather forecasts closely at this point, there is a National Weather Service Denali Climbing forecast which is put out twice a day by the Fairbanks office. Here’s a link to that if you’d like to follow along…  Denali Climbing Forecast

We also get a private professional forecast from Marc DeKeyser at Weather 4 Expeditions which is a bit more detailed and a great tool to help guides pick a good weather window.

Today was about playing cards and relaxing for the May 8 team.  Jeff had the job of calling in the evening dispatch, listen to the call from Camp 3.
