June 18 Team – 3AM Climb Time

Mountain Trip lead guide, Jesse Wright called in the first dispatch for the June 18 Team from Denali base camp 7,200 ft (2194 m) on the gorgeous Kahiltna glacier! The team flew on the Talkeetna Air Taxi on what is arguably one of the most beautiful 25-minute flights over stunning granite walls, glaciers, and snow-covered peaks for as far as the eye can see!

While the team arrived in marginal weather (not pictured below) and spent a day going over skills to prepare for their move to Camp 1 7,800 ft (2377 m). Snow is falling so the team will plan to leave camp at 3 AM to officially begin their ascent of the West Buttress route! Did you know the sun never sets on Denali? Travel can take place at any time of day and this late in the climbing season it’s common for teams to travel through the night when it’s cooler.

Thanks for listening in and this team will touch base tomorrow to let us know how their move goes!
