May 25 Team – 16K Ridge & Update from Steven

The May 25 Team is making steady progress toward their goal of moving up the West Buttress and positioning themselves to be able to climb the full West Buttress route to the summit at 20,300 ft (6187 m). From Camp 3 14,200 ft (4328 m) the team made strong work of the Headwall, a vertical section that climbers ascend via fixed lines.

Topping out on the fixed lines the climbers continued on to 16,100 ft (m) to haul gear to their cache site and stashed extra supplies there. This allows the time to follow the “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization technique and to make their packs lighter for their next trip up the fixed lines. After this massive effort, the team headed back down to “14 Camp” for a hot meal and a well-earned night of rest.
