Dec 18 Aconcagua – Hike to Camp 2

Fermin calls in with the daily dispatch last night. The team is doing well and enjoyed a delicious dinner of Argentinian Tacos. After their rest day yesterday, the team continues to work on acclimatizing to the altitude. Today they left Camp 1 to ascend through a large scree field towards Camp 2. This area was once covered by the Relinchos Glacier, and sits at the head of the Relinchos Valley. Once through this bowl, they headed north up the Ameghino Valley. The Ameghino Valley splits Aconcagua from its shorter counterpart, Cerro Ameghino (19,616′ 5,978m). There is one “glacier crossing” along this pleasant hike as the team made their way up to about 18,000′ (5,480m) at Camp 2. They returned to Camp 1 for the evening, and plan to move camps tomorrow.

Here’s Fermin!
