Guide Fischer Hazen called in an update on the June 15 West Buttress trip, who are spending one more night at Camp Two acclimating before heading up to High Camp at 17,200′!
Yesterday they placed their cache on the 16-Ridge, between 14,200′, Camp Three, and High Camp. The team has already had the chance to experience the fixed lines leading out of camp up the steep headwall; setting up their cache has given them a chance to experience the majority of today’s ascent in advance. The route above 14,200′ becomes increasingly steep and committing, and the use of crampons, ice axes, running belays and fixed lines becomes very common.
