May 6 Denali is Headed To Base Camp!

The team packed up their kit at the Lakefront Hotel and loaded into our van and trailer for the drive north to Talkeetna.  They broke the 2.5-hour drive up with a stop in Wasilla, AK, home to one of our more flamboyant political figures, and then continued up to the end of the road town near the junction of the Susitna, Talkeetna and Chulitna Rivers.

The team completed the Denali climbing permit process with a stop at the Talkeetna Ranger Station, where they were provided an orientation by the NPS Climbing Rangers.

After their visit with the National Park Service, they drove over to our friends at Talkeetna Air Taxi, where final preparations for their flights began.  The team weighed all their kit, and sorted it for the 45 minute flight into the Alaska Range. Then, with clouds parting and blue sky overhead, they boarded two aircraft, a DeHavilland Beaver and an Islander, and took off down the runway!
