The May 30th team got a cache in around Windy Corner today! It’s a significant milestone on the West Buttress and an important step toward moving up to 14 Camp.
Windy Corner sits at around 13,500 feet and is one of the more notorious sections of the route. It earns its name by funneling wind off the upper mountain, and conditions there can shift quickly. Pushing a fully loaded team through that section takes focus, good pacing, and a willingness to seize the right window. The team did exactly that today and got their supplies staged higher up the route.
By all reports, the team is climbing well. Working through Windy Corner with a load is a meaningful step on any Denali expedition, and the climbers are clearly finding their rhythm on the route. That kind of steady, confident progress is a great sign for what comes next.
With supplies now staged past the Corner, the team is set up to make a more efficient move when it’s time to relocate to 14 Camp. For now, the May 30th team is back at camp with another solid day behind them and good momentum building heading into the next phase of the climb.
