The May 30th team officially made the move up to Camp 2 today! After working their way through the lower mountain, it’s a big step forward and an important milestone on the West Buttress.
The move from Camp 1 to Camp 2 is a significant push on the lower mountain, gaining about 2,000 feet of elevation as climbers work their way up Ski Hill and continue along the Kahiltna Glacier. The team made the trip in about six hours of climbing, which is a solid pace for this stretch of the route. By all reports, the team is doing well and continuing to find their rhythm as they climb.
In today’s dispatch, the team also took some time to introduce themselves, giving listeners a chance to get to know the climbers and guides behind the expedition. It’s always fun to put voices to the climb and to hear from the people doing the work up there.
For now, the May 30th team is settled in at Camp 2 at 11,200 feet with another solid day behind them. With the move done, the focus turns to the next phase of the climb and continuing to build momentum up the mountain.
