The May 28th team is fully moved in at 14 Camp. They back-carried today and brought the rest of their supplies up the route, putting them in a strong spot for the next phase of the expedition.
After the back-carry, the team also took the time to walk out to the Edge of the World, one of the most iconic spots on the West Buttress. The Edge sits just beyond 14 Camp and offers a dramatic look straight down to the lower Kahiltna Glacier thousands of feet below, with sweeping views across the Alaska Range. It’s a quick walk from camp, but it’s the kind of view that puts the scale of Denali into perspective. After days of climbing past granite walls and glaciers, looking straight down at the lower mountain from above is a powerful reminder of just how high the team has climbed.
Looking ahead, the team is planning to cache on the ridge tomorrow. Caching on the ridge is one of the more committing days on the West Buttress. It involves climbing the fixed lines above 14 Camp before stepping out onto the long, exposed ridge that leads toward high camp. Successfully stashing supplies up there is a major step toward the upper mountain, and the team is in a great position to take it on.
For now, the May 28th team is settled in at 14 Camp, resting up after a long day and getting ready for a big day tomorrow. With the back-carry done, the Edge of the World checked off, and the ridge in their sights, the team is climbing strong.
