May 26th Team – Settles into Camp 3

The May 26th team officially made the move up to 14 Camp today! After working their way through the lower mountain, it’s a big step forward and a well-earned arrival at one of the most important camps on the West Buttress.

The move from Camp 2 to 14 Camp is one of the bigger days on Denali, gaining roughly 3,000 feet of elevation through demanding terrain. The team made impressive time, completing the move in around four hours and forty minutes. That’s a quick pace for this section of the route, and it speaks to the team’s strong momentum and the work they’ve put in to get here.

By all reports, the team is doing great. As is the case at this stage of any expedition, climbers are continuing to find their rhythm with the more technical aspects of glacier travel, and the team’s guides are doing a great job providing support and coaching where it’s needed. That kind of attentive guiding is part of what makes a strong expedition, and it’s setting the team up well for the more demanding terrain higher on the route.

For now, the May 26th team is settled in at 14 Camp at 14,200 feet, getting tents pitched and bodies fed after a strong day on the rope. With the move behind them, the upper mountain is now in view, and the team is in a great spot heading into the next phase of the climb.

Family and friends are encouraged to leave comments for their loved ones on this expedition. Please keep in mind that climbers will not be able to see posts or comments until they return to Talkeetna at the end of the expedition.
