May 19th Team – Resting at 14 Camp

The May 19th team took a rest day at 14 Camp today and is now looking ahead to a slightly different plan for their move to high camp. After turning around partway up the fixed lines yesterday due to wind and cold, the team is gearing up to single carry to high camp on their next push higher.

A single carry means the team will move all their supplies up to high camp in one trip, rather than caching some gear partway up and back-carrying it later. It’s a more efficient approach when the schedule is starting to factor in, and it’s a common way for teams to make up time on the upper mountain. The trade-off is heavier loads on a single demanding day, but it lets the team get into high camp and into position for a summit attempt without spending extra days going up and down the same terrain.

Today’s rest day will help set the team up for that effort. Time at 14,200 feet means more acclimatization, more recovery, and more time to fuel up before stepping back onto the rope. After a hard day on the fixed lines yesterday, a slower day at camp is exactly what the body needs.

For now, the May 19th team is at 14 Camp, resting and getting ready for the next push higher. With the new plan in place and the upper mountain in view, the team is in a strong spot to keep moving.
