May 14th Team – Cache Day

The May 14th team successfully cached at around 9,600 feet today which is no small feat given the conditions they were dealing with. Strong winds and unsettled weather hammered the route throughout the day, with gusts kicking up loose snow and visibility coming and going in waves. Days like this are a reminder of why Denali earns its reputation as one of the most weather-volatile mountains in the world.

Despite the elements, the team pushed through, got their cache in the ground, and made it safely back to camp. Word from the mountain is that everyone is doing well, spirits are high, and the team is settling in for a warm meal and some hard-earned rest. Weather permitting, they’ll make the move up to Camp 2 tomorrow.

Take a listen as lead guide Joe, is joined by special musical guest Marty Robbins for a rendition of “The Master’s Call”.

Family and friends are encouraged to leave comments for their loved ones on this expedition. Please keep in mind that climbers will not be able to see posts or comments until they return to Talkeetna at the end of the expedition.
