May 12th West Buttress Denali Expedition – Rest Day at Camp 2

Climber Celine from the May 12th West Buttress Denali Expedition called in to report that they had a beautiful rest day at Camp 2.

“Nice weather, quite warm, but now its cold…”. Give it a listen!

Climbers resting and enjoying the atmosphere of being on the tallest mountain in North America!

Rest is a crucial part of the marathon that is climbing Denali. Our trips on Denali budget 22 days to attempt to summit and return to basecamp, and our “Fly In” and “Fly Off” are set by the National Park Service. However, with perfect weather a strong team, our itinerary budgets 14 days (on average) to make the climb. Luckily, that gives our expedition teams about 8 days to burn as extra rest days or “weather days” when its too stormy to travel on the mountain.

We hope that the May 12th Team got some good rest and is feeling ready to tackle whatever comes next!
