June 8th Team – Makes the push around Windy Corner

The June 8th team got a cache in around Windy Corner today, with the team having a strong day out on the mountain! It’s a significant milestone on the West Buttress and a key step toward establishing the team higher up the route.

Windy Corner sits at around 13,500 feet and is one of the more notorious sections of the route. It earns its name by funneling wind off the upper mountain, and conditions there can shift quickly. Getting a cache through that section takes good timing, focus, and the willingness to seize the right window. By all reports, the team caught the right window and made the most of it.

A good day on Windy Corner is something to take note of. The conditions, the pace, and the work of moving as a team all have to come together, and when they do, it’s a great sign that the team is climbing well and finding their rhythm on the upper mountain. With supplies now staged past the Corner, the team is set up to make a more efficient move when it’s time to relocate to 14 Camp.

For now, the June 8th team is back at camp with a solid day behind them. With strong momentum building and the route opening up ahead, the team is in a great position to keep moving up Denali.
