The June 7th team is heading home! After being the first Mountain Trip team to summit and return to high camp earlier this trip, the team continued their descent today, dropping from high camp down to 14 Camp this afternoon. Tonight, they’ll take on the overnight march down to Basecamp.
There’s something special about the final push off the mountain. The hard climbing is behind them, the summit is in the books, and every step down the glacier brings the team closer to a hot meal, a real bed, and the comforts of town. Traveling overnight, when the glacier is cold and stable, the team will make the long pull down the lower Kahiltna toward Basecamp.
By all accounts, this team has climbed strong and efficiently from day one, and that same momentum is carrying them home. After weeks on the mountain, the descent is the last big effort standing between the team and a well-earned celebration in Talkeetna.
For now, the June 7th team is at 14 Camp, resting up before tonight’s march to Basecamp. We’re incredibly proud of this team and looking forward to welcoming them off the glacier early tomorrow!
