June 26th Team Moves on up to High Camp

The team made the move to high camp at over 17,000 ft today!  The climbing from Camp 2(14,200ft) to High Camp (17,200 ft) is some of the more technical and fun sections of the entire West Buttress route.   They climbed right out of camp up to the base of a steep headwall that gains a ridge leading to high camp.  The final 600 ft of the headwall is protected by fixed lines and is a bit of a grind, but tops out on one of the most scenic ridges in the Alaska Range.  They gain the final 1000 ft of elevation to High Camp along this scenic ridge with exposed climbing on both sides, and some amazing views.  They’ll settle into camp for the night, and plan to take a day to recover and acclimatize tomorrow before heading for the summit.

  3. Go Daniel, Go! Can’t wait to see your pictures from the summit! We should probably let you know that 3 handed H&F is not as fun without you and your car is running great (you might need a new set of tires though, gas pedal is a little touchy). Kim and Ryan.

  6. Hey Daniel,
You’re almost there! I listened to the recording from today and it sounds like you are waiting for winds to die down. Praying that happens soon, and that you get your shot at the summit. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t give you a Madison banner to hold for a picture on the summit. Hope you guys get your shot at the top!
