The June 1st West Buttress expedition has come to a close, marking the end of another unforgettable journey on Denali. Led by an experienced guide team and filled with determined climbers from all walks of life, this group faced the challenges of Alaska’s high peaks with grit, humor, and heart. Lead guide Kyle Hornor wrote this farewell for his team for you all to read:
Well the June 1st West Buttress expedition is officially wrapped up! We had a great time this year with an amazing team of climbers who kept it fun through good weather and bad. We used almost all of our allotted days on the mountain this year, largely due to a 4-day delay at the start, waiting for good weather to get flown into base camp. Once we arrived on the mountain however, we got down to business, made good progress up the mountain, and ended up with one of the nicest summit days I’ve ever had in the Alaska Range. Every team member dug deep and gave it their all up there on the mountain. More importantly, everyone made it back safely to friends and family back home. Nice work to all!
Congratulations to this strong, motivated, and resilient team — and thank you for bringing your best to the mountain every step of the way. Here’s to new friendships, hard-earned memories, and one perfect summit day we’ll never forget. See you all in the mountains again soon!
