June 11 Denali Team – Stormy Father’s Day

Mountain Trip guide Nicole Lawton called in from a snowy Camp 1 at 7,800′.  A significant storm as taken up residence over Denali in recent days, and the June 11th team stayed in camp as the snow fell on the Kahiltna Glacier.  The forecasters refer to it as a “tropical storm,” which seems a bit of a joke to the climbers who spent a lot of time today digging out from copious amounts of snow.

Spirits are good and the team is getting to know one another, swapping stories and drinking lots of hot drinks, while they keep a keen eye out for any break in the weather.  The plan is to move to Camp 2 at 11,200′ (3414m) as soon as the clouds break.

Here’s Nicole, with a warm Father’s Day wish for her Dad!!!

  3. Hi Ryan and Teri,
All is well here. Max and Lily stopped by. The doggies and kitties were ecstatic. ET is happy also. It’s 100 degrees here. Only one walk today – to take Georgie to the vet. Rosie insisted in coming along as well. The infection on the lower gum/lip is still there. Treatment: trimmed the hair in the affected area and prescribed a different antibiotic and antiseptic wipes twice daily. I also have to dry the area after he drinks. The vet says cookie dough is a big no. I use peanut butter now. My barre3 classes are great. Rigorous workouts and helpful instructors. I’ve gone every day for 11 days. Rest day today. Hope you get some good weather soon. Be safe! Hugs and kisses from me and the menagerie, Mom/Cathy

  4. Hey Jim we’re seeing beautiful warm weather in Seattle, sending some your way. Thoughts are with you brother.
