The Everest Base Camp team is in Lobuche!
Lobuche is a tiny village perched up off the side of the Khumbu glacier and directly below the rugged, 7,861 meter Nupste. We had incredibly clear weather while moving up from Dingboche, along with endless 360 degree views of the range. Temperatures are consistently below freezing when the sun is gone, but we are staying plenty warm with endless hot drinks near the communal wood stove in our tea house. We have met and made many friends that are up here to climb many of the worlds tallest peaks. Wild!
Last night, a group of Sherpa surprised Dave on his birthday with a celebration of a random assortment of items including a scarf, many sweets, and a celebratory beer at 16,000 feet!
The sun continues to shine, and today after breakfast, we plan to move to Gorak Shep to climb Kala Patthar (5,644 meters/18,519 feet) this afternoon for sunset, or perhaps tomorrow morning for sunrise, before we make our entrance into Everest Base Camp!
Much love!
