June 5 Denali Team Moves To Camp 1

One of the climbers from our June 5th Denali team called in from Camp 1 at 7800′ on the Kahiltna Glacier.  It was either Jorge or Arturo, so if anyone out there recognizes his voice, ayudame por favor!

The team did well today, hiking the five miles in about as many hours.  The glacier has some sections with many crevasses, due to some different snow conditions that we’ve been experiencing this season.  They made good time and are doing great!

The day started with a descent down the Southeast Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier, as it dropped to join the main body of the 44-mile long Kahiltna.  They then turned hard right and hiked north up the longest glacier in Denali National Park, past some amazing peaks and a couple other tributary glaciers.  Camp is situated where the Northeast Fork of the Kahiltna joins the main glacier and is at the bottom of a 1600′ hill in the Kahiltna, known as Ski Hill.

Enjoy!
