Patrick Lane
Hi, everyone! My name is Patrick Lane and my goal is to share the adventure and excitement of climbing and the outdoors with you.
From when I was a small child I have always spent most of my time outside. Nothing excited me more than family backpacking trips or local hikes in my home range of the Sierra Nevada. During high school I started trail running, mountain biking, and competitive nordic skiing. Drawn to the world of nature, I studied Marine Biology in college. After discovering I was better suited to be working underwater and not in a lab, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where I served as a diver for six years. This gave me a strong background in risk management and experience working as part of a team in a challenging environment. I decompressed on weekends by driving to the nearest mountain ranges to mountain bike, rock climb, and backcountry ski.
After the Navy, I started teaching downhill skiing during the winter and guiding during the summer. Over the past four years I have guided canyoneering, hiking, via ferrata, rock climbing, and alpine climbing as well
as teaching rock climbing and mountaineering courses. I have been fortunate to call the Utah desert, North Cascades of Washington, and the San Juan Mountains of Colorado my workplace and home. I have worked on three Mountain Trip expeditions to the West Buttress of Denali in the Alaska Range and look forward to returning this season! I have worked for multiple guiding companies, but I am most proud of being part of the team at Mountain Trip. I see guiding as a way to help others experience and value our natural environment. I also believe it is a great way to empower people by helping them overcome fun, difficult challenges, as well as a way to unite people of different backgrounds from all over the world.
When I’m not working, I spend my time climbing, skiing, trail running, traveling, reading books in coffee shops, cooking, and drinking coffee any hour of the day.
I am pursuing full IFMGA certification through the American Mountain Guides Association and hold the following credentials: Assistant Rock Guide, Apprentice Alpine Guide, Apprentice Ski Guide, Ice Instructor Course, Single Pitch Instructor, AIARE Instructor, Avalanche Pro 1, Wilderness First Responder, Leave No Trace Trainer.
