Jerry Bays called in from the team’s Camp 1 at 7,800′ on the Kahiltna Glacier. The team moved up to Camp 1 yesterday and carried loads of supplies up to about 10,000′ today. This system of ascent is often referred to as climbing high and sleeping low. It benefits the climbers by minimizing the quantity of supplies they need to carry at one time and also helps their bodies adjust to the higher altitudes by giving them a “taste” of each new elevation before committing to it.
Here is Jerry!
