June 22nd Team – First storm day!

The June 22nd team took a rest day at Camp 2 today, using the downtime to recover and acclimatize before looking ahead to the next phase of their Denali ski expedition.

Rest days at Camp 2 are an important part of the expedition rhythm. Time spent at 11,200 feet gives the body a chance to adapt to the altitude before pushing higher on the mountain, and a day spent eating, hydrating, and resting pays real dividends when it comes time to take on the more demanding terrain above. For a ski team carrying the extra weight of their ski gear up the mountain, a day of recovery goes a long way.

This is also the stretch of the expedition where the route ahead really comes into focus. From Camp 2, the next steps lead toward Windy Corner and eventually up to 14 Camp on the upper mountain. The team is using the rest day to refuel and reset before continuing on, and every bit of elevation gained from here is terrain they’ll eventually be eyeing to ski back down on their way to attempting a summit ski descent.

For now, the June 22nd team is settled in at Camp 2, rested up and getting ready for the next move. With a solid recovery day behind them and the upper mountain in view, the ski expedition is rolling right along.
