June 10th Team – Preps for a summit push!

The June 10th team made it up to high camp today in just over six hours, and they’re planning to go for the summit tomorrow to take advantage of a good weather window!

The move from 14 Camp to high camp is one of the more demanding days on Denali, and making it in just over six hours is a strong, efficient pace. The climb takes the team up the fixed lines above 14, along the long, exposed ridge that leads to high camp, and finally into camp at 17,200 feet. Getting the team up there quickly and in good shape sets them up well for what comes next.

With a favorable forecast ahead, the team is planning to capitalize on the good weather and make their summit attempt tomorrow. Timing a summit push with a solid weather window is one of the most important decisions of the expedition. Summit day on Denali is one of the longest and most demanding days of climbing anywhere in the world, often running 12 to 16 hours in extreme cold and thin air, so having good conditions makes a real difference. The team will rest, hydrate, and get ready tonight before stepping off toward the top.

For now, the June 10th team is settled in at high camp, getting their rest and getting ready for the biggest day of the expedition. The summit is in view, the team is in position, and we’re feeling great about how they’re set up heading into tomorrow.
