June 10th Team – Rest day at 14k

A beautiful day at 14-Camp

A beautiful day at 14-Camp

The June 10th team is gearing up for a big day tomorrow, planning to take advantage of a nice weather window to make the move up to high camp!

Timing the move to high camp with good weather is one of the most important decisions of the upper mountain phase. The climb from 14 Camp to high camp takes the team up the fixed lines, along the long, exposed ridge above, and finally into high camp at 17,200 feet, on some of the most committing terrain of the West Buttress. Catching a clear, calm day for that push makes a real difference, and the team is in a great position to make the most of the window ahead.

A day spent at 14 Camp resting and preparing sets the team up well for the climb. After the work it took to get established at 14, going into the move to high camp rested, well-fed, and properly acclimatized makes all the difference once the climbing gets more demanding higher up.

For now, the June 10th team is at 14 Camp, getting ready to move when the weather lines up tomorrow. With the upper mountain in view and a good forecast ahead, the team is in a strong spot heading into the next phase of the climb.
