The June 7th team made it up to Camp 2 today, continuing the strong start to their Denali expedition!
The team left Camp 1 at around 7 AM and worked their way up the route in a smart, efficient way. Rather than push the full load all the way to Camp 2 in one go, the team single-carried to the cache site at 10K on Kahiltna Pass, dropped some of their load there, and then continued on up to Camp 2 with lighter packs. By splitting the day this way, the team made the move to Camp 2 less physically demanding while still making real progress up the mountain.
The plan for this evening is to head back down and pick up the supplies they left at the 10K cache site after dinner. Late evening and overnight travel on the lower glacier is the safest approach since the snow firms up significantly as temperatures drop. With the cache so close to Camp 2, the team can grab their gear, consolidate at the new camp, and be set up to focus on the next phase of the climb.
For now, the June 7th team is at Camp 2, taking it easy before tonight’s back-carry. With strong, consistent days behind them, the team is in a great spot to keep building momentum on the route.
