May 17th Team – Rest day at 14k

The May 17th team took a rest day at 14 Camp today, with plans to make the move up to high camp tomorrow. After the work it took to get a cache in up on the ridge, a day spent resting and acclimatizing is exactly what the team needs heading into one of the bigger climbs of the expedition.

Tomorrow’s move from 14 to high camp will take the team up the fixed lines, along the long ridge above, and finally into high camp at 17,200 feet. It’s a committing day of climbing on some of the most exposed terrain of the West Buttress, and going into it well-rested makes a meaningful difference.

Days like today aren’t just about physical recovery. Mentally, a rest day at 14 lets the team reset before the climbing gets more serious. Hot meals, plenty of fluids, sleep, and a slower pace all add up to a sharper, stronger team when it’s time to step back onto the rope.

For now, the May 17th team is at 14 Camp, taking it easy and getting ready for a big day tomorrow. The upper mountain is in view, and the team is in a great spot to keep moving.
