The May 17th team took a weather day at camp today, sitting tight as conditions kept them in place. Plans for moving higher will pick back up as soon as the window opens.
By all reports, the team is having a great time despite the hold. The mood at camp is high, the food is good, and the team is genuinely enjoying each other’s company while they wait. Long stretches at camp can wear on some expeditions, but this group has clearly found their rhythm. Conversations today drifted to creative places, including a long discussion about hauling gear with sleds and a half-serious wish for a generator and a set of speakers so the team could blast music from 17,000 feet. The kind of imagination that comes out of a weather day at camp is one of the more entertaining parts of expedition life, and it’s a good sign that the team is staying loose, laughing together, and keeping their energy up.
For now, the May 17th team is staying patient, staying fed, staying ready, and clearly having a blast doing it. We’ll have more to share once the weather opens up and the team is back on the move.
