The June 18th team is off to a strong and steady start on the West Buttress. After settling into Camp 1 (7,800 ft / 2,377 m), they made a successful carry up to 10,000 ft / 3,048 m, stashing food and gear in preparation for the days ahead. This section of the Kahiltna Glacier offers expansive views and a gradual elevation gain, perfect for dialing in systems and easing into the rhythm of expedition life. The team returned to Camp 1 after caching and is taking the rest of the day to rest, recover, and fuel up.
Tonight’s dinner: pesto sausage pasta — a mountain crowd favorite after a full day of moving loads. With beautiful weather holding, the group is enjoying their time at camp, relaxing in the sun and soaking up the quiet energy of the glacier. Spirits are high and everyone is feeling healthy and strong. More movement ahead soon — but for now, it’s all about pacing.
