Today was a rest and skills day at 14 Camp for the team as they prepare for the next big push on the West Buttress route. Nestled beneath the iconic headwall, the crew spent the day fueling up, hydrating, and refining their fixed line systems in preparation for tomorrow’s climb to cache gear on the 16,000 ft ridge (4,877 m).
Conditions remained favorable throughout the day, offering clear views of Mt. Foraker to the west and the summit plateau above. Snow walls were reinforced, gear sorted, and harnesses double-checked as excitement builds for the technical ascent ahead.
Tomorrow, they’ll take on the headwall — a steep 800-foot section leading up to the ridge — using ascenders on fixed lines to gain altitude efficiently and safely.
Everyone’s in good spirits and feeling strong after a well-earned rest. Stay tuned as the expedition pushes higher into alpine terrain.
