June 11 West Buttress Team Moves to Camp 3!

Lead guide Jordan Cargill called in from the bustling Genet Basin, the site of our June 11 Team’s Camp 3. Located at an elevation of 14,200 feet, this camp is sort of the Advanced Base Camp for the West Buttress route. It is a stunning camp in a broad basin that looks out to the south at the peaks rising above the Kahiltna Glacier. Turning 180 degrees, you are looking straight up at the edge of High Camp, a full three thousand feet above, and at the iconic Messner Couloir and its neighbor the Orient Express, each a steep snow slope that soar a vertical mile above camp.

This morning, the team packed up their camp at 11,000 feet and made their way back up Motorcycle and Squirrel Hills en route to the infamous Windy Corner. Today, however, there was almost no wind, and the crew had great climbing conditions, enabling them to make very good time up to Camp 3.

Here’s Jordan!
