June 7th Team Looking Ahead to Windy Corner

The June 7 Rapid Ascent team had a strong day of climbing, moving efficiently from the 9,600 ft (2,926 m) cache site up to Camp 2 at 11,200 ft / 3,414 m. The route climbed steadily through rolling glacial terrain with increasing exposure and stunning views back toward the Alaska Range.

Dinner was ravioli, eaten under a crisp alpine sky with growing excitement about what’s next. The team is now focused on acclimating to 13,000+ ft / ~3,962 m, with plans to cache gear around Windy Corner — a critical route feature that marks the gateway to the upper mountain.

After caching high, the crew will descend to Camp 2 for rest and recovery, giving their bodies time to adapt. Once acclimatized, they’ll be primed to push to 14 Camp — a major milestone on the West Buttress route, and the launch point for summit strategy.
