The May 28th team has arrived at 14 Camp (14,000 ft / 4,267 m) today after a long, demanding climb from Camp 2 at 11,000 ft (3,353 m). The route gains 3,000 feet (914 m) of elevation and follows Motorcycle Hill and Squirrel Hill before traversing across the Polo Fields and around Windy Corner — a notoriously exposed section known for high winds and deep snow. Today, the team had to break trail through knee-deep powder the entire way.
Now tucked in at 14 Camp, they’re refueling with Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and gearing up for tomorrow’s cache retrieval. They’ll descend back down around Windy Corner to pick up the gear they left partway up. A big bonus of cache days: the heavy camp gear stays put, so loads are light and travel is faster both ways.
