May 20th West Buttress Expedition Team

June 4th Update – Denali, Alaska

Currently holding steady at 14,000 ft (4,267 m) in Genet Basin, our team is making the most of the downtime — including building what might be the finest latrine 14 Camp has ever seen. After days of wind and waiting, the weather is finally showing signs of improvement. Everyone’s healthy, strong, and itching to move higher.

If conditions stay favorable, we plan to push to High Camp at 17,200 ft (5,243 m) on June 5th. The route ahead climbs the steep Headwall via fixed lines, then follows the narrow, exposed ridge of the West Buttress past Washburn’s Thumb to reach 17K Camp. June 4th’s forecast is encouraging, with light winds and relatively stable skies — just enough to give us hope. Spirits are high, and stoke is building.
