Mountain Trip climber Chris from the May 17 team called in with the dispatch after this crew accomplished “a strong push” around Windy Corner 13,000 ft (3962 m) to their gear cache site. Pulling out of their home base of Camp 2 11,000 ft (3353 m) the team hauled sleds and packs while steep snow climbing up the 1,000 ft (305 m) high Motorcycle Hill.
The total distance for the day is about 4 miles (6.43 km) round trip with a little over 2,000 ft (610 m) of elevation gain over the course of 6-7 hours of climbing time. Then the climbers were able to test out the crampon and ice axe skills they’d been practicing since before they flew into the glacier! Negotiating through this section gets you around Windy Corner where the upper mountain comes into view.
After the very active rest day, the team returned to Camp 2 11,000 (3353 m) to dine on burrito bowls with guacamole before an early bedtime. Tomorrow the team plans to head to Camp 3, 14,200 ft (4328 m). Stay tuned!
Burrito bowls sound like the best part of the day
