Climber Julie Leigh called in an update on the June 17 West Buttress team, back at camp after a day of heading up the route to set a cache at around 13,500′ around Windy Corner. Other teams in the area have mentioned that Windy Corner lived up to its namesake today, with blustery weather. For the cache today, the team was able to trade out snowshoes and poles for ice axes and crampons to make their way up into more exposed, glaciated terrain. This stretch of the route feels a lot more like you are finally beginning the climb, rather than approaching the mountain. With this cache, the team is in a good position to move camp up to 14,200′ and prepare for the upper mountain once weather allows.
Here’s Julie!
