Mountain Trip guide Kakiko Ramos-Leon called in an update on the May 13 Denali West Buttress team, at 14,200′, Camp Three. The team was settling in to have dinner, and they will be spending a couple of days in this camp to acclimatize for the upper mountain. They will likely spend the day today doing some practice with their crampons and ice axes, as the route heads steeply out of camp and becomes much more exposed and committing for the rest of the way.
A few days of acclimating at this elevation is also essential for making sure everyone feels as good as they can in the thinner air of the upper mountain.
