The team is making progress! Today the climbers moved a load of equipment and supplies up the glacier to a cache site several miles up the Kahiltna glacier. Caching is an important strategy for the team, as it allows them to move a large amount of equipment and supplies up the mountain and also allows them to acclimatize to the thinning air. The amount of supplies needed for a 22 day climb for 9 climbers is impressive! A cache site is literally a hole in the snow that the team excavates, fills with gear, then covers. The location is carefully marked and a few days later the team will return and pick up the cache.
It sounds like the team is being well-fueled by the delicious meals prepared by the guide team, headed by Seba, chef extraordinaire. Here’s Nathan sending a special birthday wish:
So good seeing your progress, reading the report, the photos are amazing already.and good to hear your updates Nathan. Sounds like hard work setting up getting the caches organised.
