Guide Fischer Hazen called in an update for the May 8th West Buttress team, who are camped at 11,200′ camp.
They spent yesterday “back carrying” down the route to retrieve supplies that they cached earlier at Kahiltna Pass at around 10,500′, and bringing them up to camp.
The weather has finally cleared, revealing the beautiful views and high glaciated peaks around them. The team hope to cache at around 13,000′ to set them up for a move up to 14-Camp–ideally tomorrow. There they will spend at least a day acclimating to the thinner air and preparing for the upper mountain and its unique challenges. The team also generally has a bit of reception at 14-camp, occasionally enabling them to send us photos from the mountain.
