Joe and Scott are back in the village of Sugapa, along with Jacob Schmitz, who accompanied the team to the top of Carstensz Pyramid, the highest peak in Oceania. The trek through the jungle was very difficult, exacerbated by heavy, almost incessant rain, and deep mud. They were fortunate that today, on their final day of their trek out from the mountain, the weather cleared and they were treated to a glorious day of sunshine.
Their flight to Timika is on hold, as the airstrip in Sugapa is under construction, and closes early each day, so they might get a bit of “bonus” time in the small village. We’ll keep posting until they are back in Bali, so stay tuned!
