Climbing, Skiing and Mountaineering in Colorado
Adventure in our Backyard
Each day we find something that makes us say, “Wow!” about the location of our office in the village of Ophir, CO, located at 9,800′ and looking out at miles of 13,000+’ ridge lines. We are minutes away from some of the iconic 14ers such as Mt Wilson, El Diente and Mt Sneffels. Ice climbs like the fabled Ames Ice Hose, Bridalveil Falls, Cracked Canyon and the Ouray Ice Park are part of our daily winter playgrounds. The San Juan Mountain snowpack is legendary and we ski inbounds at Telluride Ski Resort and Silverton Mountain as well as out in the backcountry. Some of our guides work for Telluride Helitrax and lead groups of skiers down remote lines that they access by helicopter. Summertime finds us at the numerous crags of rock in our vicinity or hiking in the mountains above our home. In the Spring and Fall we heed the siren song of the desert and climb sandstone towers or in the dark and foreboding Black Canyon of the Gunnison. All in all, we feel incredibly fortunate.
We would love to share all of the above with our climbers, but obtaining new permits to guide from our local land managers can be challenging. Therefore, we work in close collaboration with two other guide services, San Juan Mountain Guides and Southwest Adventure Guides. Between the three of us, we have permits for numerous 14,000′ peaks, virtually all the ice climbs in SW Colorado, as well as great venues for offering mountaineering courses, backcountry skiing and avalanche courses.
We would love to help you select a mountain adventure in our backyard. Please contact us for more details.
