Mountain Trip Aconcagua December 3, 2024 team update:
Good evening, James Partridge here on December 10th.
Today was a load carry from Camp 1 up to Camp 2, and elevation gain of about 1,600 ft. As this load carry is a shorter day, we started around 10:30 after a nice breakfast. Fermin cooked eggs, bacon, and cheese toast that was complimented his wife’s organic homemade blueberry jam. (Yes, you wish you had some.) The carry was quite uphill at the start with most of the elevation gain in the first third of the distance. Once reaching more level grounds, progress was hampered by 40km/h headwinds. The wind also made it quite cold. Once we reached Camp 2, we enjoyed the inside of the windless domo (igloo shaped structure) and dropped the items to leave. Fermin then became an electrician and attempted to fix the solar panel system. Thiyag and I enjoyed tunes from his phone and watched the repair efforts as we acclimatized for a few hours.
The three and a half hour hike up was accelerated down by the same winds as we had a simple one hour return. All are in good spirits as dinner is currently being prepared, tortellini pasta!
Tomorrow, we move against the wind once more to stay at Camp 2.
Hi to everyone back home! Hopefully the winds drop the 14th or 15th for a summit attempt!
